Welcome! My name is Leaha Severson and I'm a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) and School Counsellor.
Growing up in the serene landscapes of a small farming community in Saskatchewan, I learned the value of resilience, compassion, and determination from an early age. My journey has been shaped by overcoming adversities, including childhood cancer and the subsequent challenges of being a new amputee at 15 years old, in the height of puberty and exploring my identity. These experiences have not only strengthened my resolve but also fueled my passion for helping others navigate their own obstacles and find meaning in their lives.
With over a decade of experience as a School Counsellor, I have had the privilege of supporting countless youth through their academic, social, and emotional journeys. My background as an Educator, School Counsellor, and Lead Counsellor in the school system has instilled in me a deep understanding of the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and mental resilience, qualities that I bring into my therapeutic practice.
I work with youth (12 years old+) up to young adults through a strengths-based and collaborative approach. My hope is to empower clients to tap into their inner resources, cultivate self-awareness, and embark on a path of growth and self-discovery. It is my belief that youth are part of a larger system, the family, and with that belief in mind, I work within the family system to identify areas of strength and challenges. I work primarily through a solution-focused lens and pull elements from family systems theory, attachment theory, cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy. Ultimately, My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and humility. I recognize the uniqueness of each individual's journey and honour their lived experiences as integral to the therapeutic process. I hope that every client and family walks away from time with me feeling valued, heard, and empowered to take on life’s hardships.
